The Institute for Vaishnava Studies is launched as a research institute with the aim of creating a culture of rigorous scholarship on Vaishnavism from its earliest manifestations to its extant global presence.
On December 13th, 1982 the Institute for Vaishnava Studies is formally incorporated by Dr. Graham M. Schweig with the first advisory board consisting of Harvard faculty.
IVS receives a Smithsonian grant to undertake the Matsya Project of microforming and preserving over 5000 manuscripts across India
The Journal of Vaishnava Studies is founded and launched by Steven J Rosen, and it is now the official journal of the IVS
IVS relocates to Gainesville, Florida and begins offering courses, hosting seminars and participating in conferences
