The Institute for Vaishnava Studies (Estd. 1980) is an interdisciplinary global consortium of researchers, educators, public intellectuals, and community leaders academically engaging with Vaishnavism, Hinduism’s largest lived tradition. IVS currently hosts conferences, offers certificates, diplomas, and theological degrees and publishes scholarly works through a variety of avenues, including the Journal of Vaishnava Studies, the longest running scholarly journal on Hindu Studies in the Western world.
The IVS is committed to a standard of rigorous scholarship that is enlivened by sincere interfaith relationships. With such a rich setting for theological studies, the IVS wishes to support and engage first-rate scholars who will excel academically.
The specific purpose of the corporation is to combine and utilize the resources of scholars, in both the academic and religious communities, in order to further understanding of all aspects of Vaishnava culture from its ancient Indian roots to its present manifestations. The Institute will encourage a responsiveness to the religious and academic approaches by requiring that members pursuing Institute work utilize a methodology for the study of Vaishnavism sensitive to the perspectives of both.
